OK, what would you do? Hali got a couple of free tickets at school for the Jordan World Circus. We've never been and I thought WOW I bet the kids would love it! I talked to Eric tonight and he agreed to go. I decided to get online and check prices and get more information. I got a lot more information than I went looking for. I typed Jordan Wold Circus into Google and the first thing to come up was a Peta Fact Sheet from the USDA. This is what the first paragraph of the three page report read:
Jordan World Circus no longer possesses an exhibitor license from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The animals are leased from outside companies, so Jordan is no longer subject to citations under its own name. During the time it was USDA-licensed, Jordan World Circus failed to meet minimal federal standards for the care of animals used in exhibition as established in the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). The USDA cited Jordan numerous times for inadequate and unsafe enclosures and for failure to provide proper veterinary care, proper animal handling, nutritious food and clean water, shelter from the elements, and exercise. Jordan waited a month to seek treatment for a malnourished tiger with a fractured leg, and it forced another sick tiger to perform. Jordan left tigers and lions in small travel cages for up to 11 days without any exercise and used elephants with a history of aggressive behavior. Contact PETA for documentation.
I've never been an animal rights activist. My husband is a hunter, we always go to the rodeo, I've eaten at Kentucky Fried Chicken many times in my lifetime and I don't check if my purchases were tested on laboratory animals. But after reading the three page report and watching a couple of circus elephant abuse videos, I'm not so sure I would enjoy going to the circus. I'm sure that I've only heard one side of the story. I know my kids would love it, but I don't know if I would enjoy sitting there knowing what I do now. So I ask again, what would you do?

I'm with you Mindy. I'm not really an animal rights person, but it doesn't look like they are the most honest company. What about Barnum and Baileys? They come every year don't they? Good question though, I don't know.
Chris is a hunter too and I'm not an animal-rights activist. I grew up going to the circus and loved it. But since marrying Chris, we haven't been. He has heard too many things having to do with the cruelty of animals. I'm glad you looked into this circus, because my kids brought home tickets too and I was considering going. Guess we won't be going afterall.
Thanks! =)
I love the circus, but would have to agree here. I just would not enjoy it knowing the conditions the animals are enduring.
Mindy,
I haven't haven't done any research on any circus' but I when I was in school I did a huge research paper on rodeo vs. animal right activist and I learned that you REALLY can't believe a whole lot of information on too many of the animal rights pages including PETA. There was A LOT of false info about rodeo when I was doing my paper that made rodeo sound absolutley morbid. They either hadn't done any research about rodeo or they strait up just lied about it.
I know there has always been controversy with any circus'.
I guess with the what I know, I would probably just go if I thought my kids would really enjoy it. I have never been to the Jordan World Circus but I know the Barnum and Bailey Circus is really good and I would totally recomend taking your kids to it.
I hope this help a little and its not too late. If you do go let me know how it was.
