The kids had last Monday off of school. On Sunday night I was blog surfing, Yes I do that. Anyway I was very inspired by many fun mothers. See blogging can be good. But I decided that I needed to try to be a more fun mother. So I planned a kids day. I was so excited I had a hard time getting to sleep! I have been so busy with all of the bread classes and phone calls and emails that I decided it was time to let the kids have me to themselves all day. We started off with breakfast in bed.
I know that sounds so simple, but it was the highlight of their day. I was planning on making a really great breakfast, but I slept in. They were so excited I guess they had seen it in a couple of movies. I sat and fed them grapefruit and Marshmallow Mateys. We only have one tray, so Garret had to join Hali in her bed. As they were eating I told them that it was kids day and told them that there were a few rules for MOM! I was not allowed to use the phone or the computer. I TRIED to say yes to everything, but once we got past going to Brody's house and Disneyland they decided on Kangaroo Zoo.
I think they were shocked that I just said OK lets go! I let them stay as long as they wanted. They told me when it was time to leave. Then Garret wanted a Big Amigo Burger from Taco Amigo. I did talk him into a Little Amigo and we even got dad to meet us there. Then Hali decided that she wanted to go visit the pet store. I'm sorry there are no pictures, I get too creeped out and couldn't focus on anything but getting out. Then after lots of hand sanitizer and soap and water we went home and made cupcakes.

I said yes to two colors of frosting and lots of sprinkles.
I said yes to standing in the blizzard without getting snow clothes on.
Then later they did get dressed to go play in the snow.
I said yes to playing with the camera.

She took these by herself. I have no idea where that attitude comes from!
They even got to play a game with Dad after dinner. It was such a fun day! I had a few family members worried about me because I didn't answer my phone and I've been asked at least a dozen times "can it be kids day today?" We will for sure work kids day into our schedules at least 4 or 5 times a year. Here's to being more fun. It's never too late for New Years Resolutions, right?

Mindy,
You are such a cute mom! I am sure my kids would feel majorly ripped off if they knew that there were cool moms like you out there!
I LOVE it! I think my girls are due for a KIDS DAY real soon. I'm always "in the middle of something". Thanks for the inspiration. And congrats on saying yes to the kids and no to the phone. Amazing..
